Friday Night Lights: Stick a Fork in It
By Brian on Jan 27, 2008
I used to really like Friday Night Lights. No more. It’s been on a downhill slide for most of this season, and rapidly so the last few weeks. The latest episide featured no football action for the 3rd or 4th episode in a row. It featured volleyball action, and it was mediocre middle school-level volleyball action in a pathetic excuse for a gym (I thought they were a state powerhouse school? And they have wooden backboards bolted to the walls in the gym? I hate things like that. Is it that hard to rent a real high school gym to shoot these scenes instead of some busted up community center?) so the reverted to ultra-close-up shots with quick cuts to try to disguise the poor play (it didn’t work). And the scenes they showed hyping next week’s episode didn’t contain any football either, instead replaced as usual with more uber-melodrama.
If you didn’t watch Season 1 of FNL, buy the DVD now. It’s outstanding. And let’s all forget that Season 2 ever happened. Okay? Okay.
