I Want Higher Taxes

The Democrats are trying to make this election a referendum on President Bush and Iraq.  The Republicans are trying to hold on to power by scaring people with visions of a Democratic Congress that will raise taxes.

Given the current choice, I’ll take higher taxes.

With a Republican Congress we’ve gotten out-of-control spending coupled with tax cuts, resulting in bloated government with huge deficits.

With a Democratic Congress we’ll have out-of-control spending bills, but ones that the President may actually veto because he was in favor of those other out-of-control spending bills, and we’ll have higher taxes (at least in some brackets, if the Dems can get tax-cut rollbacks voted through), resulting in bloated government with something approaching a balanced budget.

I’d obviously much rather have the third way, which was the much-promised Republican Revolution with smaller government and lower taxes and balanced budgets and term limits.  But that option isn’t on the ballot this year.

  1. Great way to word the difference, and to highlight the real choice: tax cuts & deficits, or moderate tax increases and something approaching a balanced budget.

Our government is a family, one where when the parents die, they pass on their debts to the kids.

  2. Why not moderate spending cuts instead of moderate tax increase, Jim?

  3. What does raising taxes actually do? Takes money from the people and give it to stupid bureaucrats in Washington who use it to build Woodstock Memorials or to fight wars with. The money belongs to us, the people, and if we spend our money without it first going through government then the economy (and every one of us) benefits. Taxes = theft.

Spending in Washington DC should be cut in half at least to start with. 10-15 ordinary intelligent people could get together and cut out a ton of stuff in about 2 weeks. And anyone who defrauds the government (us) should be shot and that would put and end to that.

Support politicians who will vote for spending cuts and tax cuts. IT IS OUR MONEY. IF YOU WANT TO GIVE YOUR OWN MONEY TO SOMEONE WRITE A CHECK. DON’T STEAL IT FROM THE REST OF US.

    Bring back the sanity!
