Election 2006

Just printed my sample ballot [PDF] so I can start making my final decisions about who to vote for in a couple weeks.

The only national race I’m voting on is the 6th congressional district, a seat won in 2004 by longtime Congressman Republican Howard Coble with 73% of the vote. The Democrat challenger, if you can call him that, is Rory Blake, who has failed to mount any sort of real campaign.

My state senate race is Republican Hugh Webster vs. Democratic challenger Tony Foriest. This is a repeat of the 2004 election which saw Webster win with more than 75% of the vote.

My state house race is uncontested, with Republic Cary Allred running unopposed.

The next time I hear someone decry poor midterm election turnouts I’m going to point them to this. It’s a despicable example of the state of American politics. The only three state and national races I’m eligible to vote on and none of them are realistically contested. It makes me sick.

I’m still going to vote for the city and county elections, and I think I’ll vote none of the above for the state and national ones.

Makes me sick.
