Cardinals Win the World Series

So the Cardinals won the World Series. I’m glad for them and the fans of St. Louis. And my hoped-for-results throughout the playoffs came pretty close to reality.

But the Cardinals are probably the weakest World Series champions ever. They finished only two games over .500 at 83-79 and had only the fifth-best record in a very weak National League. And eight American League teams finished with more than 83 wins, so that puts the Cardinals as the 13th-best team in the regular season at best.

But they played good baseball throughout the playoffs and played well enough in the World Series to beat a Tigers team that just didn’t hit and didn’t field. Hard to win with 8 errors in 5 games.

The one bright spot for the Tigers’ offense was “The Mayor” Sean Casey with a couple bombs and a couple doubles in the last two games. Great to see Case having a great Series after playing for so many losing teams in Cincinnati and Pittsburgh over the last several years.
