SportsCenter, RIP

SportsCenter is dead. It used to be very good and clearly the best sports highlight show around. Back when, you know, they actually showed sports highlights. Now it’s nothing but a 5-week leadup to the NFL draft, overblown coverage about the Duke lacrosse issue, human interest stories (JMac was great, most others are mediocre), and way too much tongue given to Bonds, Kobe, Lebron, and all the other media darlings.

Fox Sports Net used to air the National Sports Report (I think that’s what it was called), but their timing was off - that was when SportsCenter was at its apex. Now SportsCenter is vulnerable. FSN should bring back a national highlight show, and make it ruthlessly about highlights and true analysis.

  1. I agree 100% about Sports Center. Even when they do highlights, which is very rarely, all of them have to do these stupid catch phrases. It used to be cute and funny. Now it’s just annoying. Fox needs to step up. I used to watch the Southern Sports Report on Fox. They do a good job. But ESPN needs to fix this problem.
