Read Todd Hunter on prayer.

Read Todd Hunter on prayer. It’s good stuff. A sample:

The structured part is based on the book Celtic Daily Prayer: Prayers and Readings from the Northumbia Community. This book has outlines for prayer four times a day: early morning, mid-day, late afternoon (when the work day is complete) and bedtime. I don’t usually get all four done, but it provides me great structure as a jumping off point for what ever else I may want to talk over with God. Even when I travel, I keep a file folder with me that has the four outlines in it.

The more spontaneous part goes something like this: I try to stay present to the moment—with God (see Jean Paul De Caussade’s The Sacrament of the Present Moment). I do this through little prayers before the moments of each day. If I am about to pick up the phone to call someone, I might whisper a little prayer like: “thy Kingdom come in this conversation”. If am meeting someone for coffee, I might pray “Lord, let me be your instrument of grace and peace, etc.
